July 4 blast victims get Br 57 mn in compensations

However, not all of the victims have received the money, so the amount of compensations is yet to be increased, The European Radio for Belarus has learned.

Br 57 million will be paid to all those who were injured during the explosion of a bomb during Independence Day celebrations on July 2 in Minsk. Svyatlana Shelyangowskaya, a secretary of the commission that was set up at Minsk City Hall to assist the victims of the blast, told Euroradio that the money is wired to a bank account at BelarusBank from the presidential fund.

“As of today, Br 57 million of aid money has already been wired to the bank account”, she said.

Depending on the gravity of injuries, the victims receive from 20 to 100 base rates. Those who became handicap after the explosion will get compensations ranging between 200 and 400 base rates. In order to receive assistance, a written application should be filed.

“There is a presidential edict and laws. We have called all the victims who filed their applications. The commission holds meetings on Tuesdays. Within three days after the commission’s meeting, I send a letter to them, saying that the application has been considered and assistance has been approved”, said Svyatlana Shelyangowskaya.

Over 40 people have already received the monetary assistance, including Anatol Shynkevich, 23 who works at the Minsk Tractor Works. He was given 50 base rates.

“A couple of weeks ago, I was paid Br 1,750,000. I am satisfied with the compensation. I have only one bruise remaining but it is not hurting”, he said.

Not all of the victims have received the assistance. Some do not have a valid ID while some people are from other cities. But the authorities in Minsk City Hall maintain every victim will get their money sooner or later.
