Kremlin awaits Baumgertner's extradition soon
Yuri Ushakov, an aide to the president of Russia, says the Kremlin expects Belarus to extradite the arrested Uralkali CEO.
The Russian government expects that Minsk will extradite Uralkali CEO Vladislav Baumgertner, arrested in Belarus, to Moscow soon. This has been informed by RIA Novosti with a reference to Russian president's assistant Yury Ushakov.
"We expect this Russian citizen to be extradited to Russia. This process slows down a bit, but yesterday's statements of the Belarusian President give us hope that this issue will be solved soon," Ushakov has said.
On Thursday, Alyaksandr Lukashenka said Vladislav Baumgertner's extradition was possible under the condition that Russia holds proper investigation in the framework of the law.
"If the Russian investigators are interested in extradition of a certain arrestee, who was detained by us, I don't see any obstacles. We do not hold on to him. If they investigate it all, as he caused a great damage, which is obvious. So, if there is such a need, we won't interfere. We need to do our best to investigate this conflict together with the Russians to know what stands behind it - a multi-billion amount of money lost by Belarus and Russia, and some "elite" Russian thieves," Alyaksandr Lukashenka stated.
