Latvia refuses from “Eurovision” due to crisis while Belarus has money for it
The Latvian TV has failed to collect 200 thousand dollars to buy a ticket to Moscow. However, the crisis will not prevent Belarusians from taking part in the contest! “We are getting ready at full speed”, - said the executive producer of “Eurofest” project Anastasiya Tsihanovich in an interview with ERB:
“We have conducted the semi-final and we are getting ready for the final. That is why I hope that everything will be okay and we will take part in “Eurovision”.
Anastasіya confessed that participating in “Eurovision” required a lot of money. She could not tell us the exact sum because she was dealing with creative activities only:
“It is a lot of money. I do not know the exact sum. I am not engaged in financial activities so you should not ask me about it”.
The world crisis cannot prevent Belarus from taking part in the country’s main entertainment – “Eurovision”. However, one contender has already refused to take part in the event.
Latvians claim that it is not a political decision. They had to cancel the trip to Moscow due to the crisis. An employee of the cultural department of a Latvian newspaper “Telegraph” has commented on it for ERB:
“The Latvian TV has reduced its budged-2009 by 25% in connection with the crisis and they have refused to take part in “Eurovision”. They sent a letter to the current organizers of “Eurovision” and listed the reasons for it – those were mainly financial reasons”.
According to the employee of “Telegraph”, Latvia would have to pay 100 thousand Lats or 200 thousand dollars for taking part in “Eurovision”.
