Lord Bell is making a plan to change the image of Belarus
ERB has found out that an agreement with the famous image-maker will be signed in two weeks. While Timothy Bell is elaborating a plan of making something attractive out of Belarus, famous political strategists think that it would be necessary to change the country for it or to create an off-shore place for the western business in the centre of Europe. ERB has managed to phone the famous image-maker lord Bell who received Lukashenka’s appeal to help change the image of Belarus. We have discovered that everything will be decided in a couple of weeks.
Timothy Bell: “The President said he had never asked to make an image abroad. But he has the desire now. So he would like us to help him. That is why we are elaborating a draft plan of actions. I have to present my suggestions to Lukashenka during the next two weeks”.
ERB decided to help lord Bell and asked famous political strategists what they would do with our country.
The manager of political advertising and psychology department of the political consulting centre “Niccolo M” Іhar Mіntusau (Boris Yeltsin’s personal image consultant) thinks that it would take dramatic measures the European Union demands from Belarus to change the image:
“Belarus has acquired a marginal image. It is a closed country where the President does anything he likes without asking the opinion of the opposition and citizens. Things irritating the European community should not be done. Demonstrators should not be dispersed with the help of batons and people should not be imprisoned for their convictions”.
A Ukrainian political scientist Vіctor Nebozhenko, who used to be the image-maker of Leonid Kuchma and the young Yuliya Timoshenko, thinks that the first thing Lukashenka has to change to improve the reputation of the country, - is create promising conditions for investors. The political scientist thinks that democracy and freedom can be winked at:
Vіctor Nebozhenko: “The country should be more open and accessible at least for businessmen. It would be tempting to create an off-shore place for the western business in the centre of Europe. Then they would wink at all the rest. The first thing that the Belarusian leader could do is create an attractive climate for investments”.
According to Vіctor Nebozhenko, Alyaksandr Lukashenka turned to lord Bell because he had contacts with the necessary people in Europe and could act as a channel to the West:
“I asked Moscow political strategists: “How can they give you such orders and ask you to do things you obviously cannot do?” – “This is not important. They see us as people having access to Yeltsin and then to Putin.” So I think that your leader is trying to make friends with aged London political strategists for the same reason”.
However, an analyst Alyaksandr Fyaduta is skeptical about the work of lord Bell. Mr. Fyaduta thinks that the London image-maker will not be able to do anything specific:
Alyaksandr Fyaduta: “Lord Timothy Bell can make certain mass media publish certain articles. They will write the Belarusian pensioners get their pensions. A political strategist can exercise influence and an image-maker can cover the existing situation. That is what Timothy Bell is going to be occupied with. He will not tell Lukashenka - change yourself”.
Governments usually ask political strategists and image-makers to help them for short periods of time. Thus, a big company of western image-makers worked on the image of Russia during the preparation for the G-8 summit in Saint Petersburg in 2006. And now Belarus has decided to improve its reputation for some reason.
