Lukashenka gives go-ahead for nuclear station construction

According to TUT.BY, the decree allows the primary contractor CJSC 'Atomstroyexport' (Russia) to start construction of the Belarusian NPP. According to Article 4 of the Law of the Republic of Belarus 'On Nuclear Power Use', the decision to build an NPP or a power block for an NPP should be taken by the state leader.



The Belarusian leader's press-office claims that our country has completed the necessary preparation works to start the NPP construction, also prescribed by the taken international obligations.

As it was informed before, the Belarusian NPP will consist of two power blocks with the joint capacity of up to 2400 МVt. The plant will be constructed at Astravets ground in Hrodna region under the Russian project 'NPP-2006'. The first block is planned to be put into service in 2018, the second - in 2020. The construction will take about 10 billion dollars. Russia provides the credit.
