Mensk became Minsk 69 years ago
The Supreme Council of BSSR adopted a resolution according to which Mensk was renamed into Minsk on July 29, 1039, reminds “Polish radio for abroad”.
The city council of people’s deputies expressed a desire to return Minsk its historic name in 1991.
They decided to send an appeal to the Supreme Council asking to cancel the decision about the change of the city’s name. But the new Supreme Council refused the deputies’ idea to return the city its historic name.
