New Life church expects positive court ruling
The Supreme Court of Belarus has postponed for one week the hearing of the lawsuit filed by New Life neo-protestant church against the Minsk City Council.
The reason behind the postponment is described as "impossibility of making a decision". The case has been in court since October 2006. The protestants seek to appeal the decision of the Minsk city authorities to deprive the church of the land plot and the building.
Church lawyer Sergei Lukanin counts on the help of parishioners. In his view, the judge has put off the next hearing in order to get a clear picture in the legal contradictions.
Sergei Lukanin: “Obviously, the judge wishes to take a positive decision to our advantage. But she faced some contradictions in our laws which match to a greater degree the interests of the state, not the society”.
