Opposition in Baranavichy congratulates police, KGB with BNR anniversary
Opposition activists in Baranavichy, Brest region delivered postcards devoted to the 90th anniversary of the Belarusian National Republic (BNR) to the local authorities and security officials. "We handed the postcards personally to the city mayor, his deputies, to the ideology department, the police, the prosecutor's office and even the local KGB. We told them that we were not going to curse in public. This is a routine charge when the police detain the participants of pro-democracy events. We even had a chat with them about the history of the BNR and the future of this country. We spent the whole day, making those visits", Viktar Syrytsa, the head of the local branch of the Belarusian Language Society, told the European Radio for Belarus.
Together with Syrytsa, those visits were joined by the local activists of opposition parties.
At the same time, the local officials refused to provide a venue for festive sitting and a concert on March 24 devoted to the BHR anniversary.
Viktar Syrytsa says that 307 signatiures from local residents were also filed to support their application for a venue. It has turned out that the application and the signatures ended up at the local prosecutor's office. According to unofficial reports, 7 people were summoned to the city hall and told to recall their signatures.
