Outgoing MPs unwilling to decide on recognition of Abkhazia

The House of Representatives has not yet received a formal request by Abkhazia's parliament to recognize the region as an independent state, said Vadzim Papou, speaker of the lower chamber of the Belarusian National Assembly.

A week earlier, the parliament of Abkhazia urged Belarus and Ireland to recognize the independence of the Georgia's breakaway region, according to Interfax.

Papou said that it is the newly elected parliament that will decide on the matter.
