Peace Foundation collects money for the monument to victims of fascism in Polatsk
Polatsk city organization of Peace Foundation started collecting money for creating a monument at the place of mass executions. During the Great Patriotic war dozens thousand prisoners of war and peaceful inhabitants were shot in a place called Piaski. Fifferen sources give different numbers - from 40 to 150 thousand victims.
In 1990s, during excavations, remains of more than 38 thousand victims were found. A memorial sign was placed in Piaski 7 years ago. In 2011 it is planned to build a real monument, so now they collect money for it. Only 20 million roubles have been donated so far. The sum needed is approximately 500 million roubles.
