Regional UCP leaders support party’s further participation in local elections
The majority of leaders of UCP regional affiliates who made their speeches at the congress of the United Civil Party in Minsk criticized the possibility of withdrawing from the elections of local deputies. In particular, representatives of Brest, Minsk and Hrodna regional affiliates and of Minsk city affiliate of the UCP were against the suspension of their participation in the elections. In their opinion, if the party refuses to take part in the elections it will not allow UCP candidates to inform citizens about the party, attract additional supporters and protest against the way changes in the Election Code work. They think this step will deprive UCP representatives of the opportunity to communicate with the population, reports BelaPAN.
