A 0,33 liters can blasted in Vitsebsk back in 2005

"The explosive device was placed and concealed in a beverage metallic can of 0,33 liters".

This is not about the blast near the KGB building in Vitsebsk on November 11, 2012. This is an extract from the court sentence on the Vitsebsk blast case of September 14, 2005.

The devices which blasted in Vitsebsk on September 14 and 22, 2005 resembled each other with regard to one criterion - they were concealed as beverage cans: a 0,33 l can in the first case and 0,5 l beer can in the second case.

Here is the official information about the blast of November 11, 2012 published by the Belarusian KGB web-site:

"It was a tube made of cardboard paper or plastic with 50-70 pyrotechnical mixture inside, placed into a 0,25-0,33 liters can with no striking elements. It was put in action by the way of arson".

A criminal case has been started with regard to the blast - Article 339 of the Criminal Code (hooliganism). The 2005 blasts were also first qualified as hooliganism but then re-qualified as terrorism.

In 2005, the device was actuated by a wick or other unidentified executive device. The wording "other unidentified executive device" is taken from the final accusation to Kanavalau and Kavalyou.

The device that worked near the KGB office in Vitsebsk differs from the 2005 devices as it had no striking elements.

The KGB reported in the evening on September 23, 2005, that the suspects had been detained. A week later, Lukashenka said that "Two rascals blasted an imitation device in Vitsebsk and thought that no one would find them. We detected and found them soon and they told where they had found powder and how they wanted to scare the people at places".

They told about the Murashkas brothers, who were released after 6 months in the pre-trial detention center. Kanavalau was claimed to have committed the blast  nearly 6 years later.

What do we have now?

"As a result of the urgent investigatory measures on the basis of the witnesses' testimonies, three people have already been detained in this case. One of the detainees has external symptoms of deviation behaviour and used to call the KGB with inappropriate statements about the authorities", informs the KGB.
