The Turkish police detained the girls for that and they spent the night in jail.
On the International Women's Day on March
8, the activists of the Ukrainian movement conducted an action of solidarity
with Turkish women who suffer from physical violence, in particular, the
so-called "acid attacks". Therefore, the action was called
"H2SO4 — Asia Cocktail". In Turkey, the cases when women are crippled
or even killed for unwillingness to get married, desire to get a secular
education or innocent acquaintance with a man are still quite often.
The Ukrainians went
out to the street near the main mosk of Istanbul Agia Sophia, topless as
always, and with make-up to make them look beaten and severely injured. They
held posters which said "H2SO4 - the Formula of Fear", "Barbarians,
die!" "Stop Acid Attacks!", in Turkish and English. The girls
were delivered to the jail, lawyers were not allowed to see them.
