Freedom Day application filed to Minsk city executive committee
The rally and the demonstration are planned to be held in Minsk on Sunday, March 24.
The application has been signed by representatives of the Belarusian Popular Front party Alyaksei Yanukevich, the United Civil Party Uladzimir Ramanouski, the movement "For Freedom" Yury Hubarevich and member of the steering committee for creating the party "Belarusian Christian Democracy" Dzyanis Sadouski.
According to BPF Chairman Alyaksei Yanukevich, the Minsk city executive
committee's official accepted the application in a friendly manner, and even
informed the phone number which they should call several days later to find out
the person responsible for consideration of this application.
The gathering of participants is planned near the Botanic Garden this year.
Usually it was near the Academy of Sciences. Yanukevich has explained the
reason in a comment to Euroradio.
Alyaksei Yanukevich: "There are some construction or
re-decoration works in progress at the Academy of Sciences now. A part of the
square is sealed by a fence. At present moment we have no information on
whether these works will be completed by March 24. If they are not, this may be
the reason for refusal. We looked for another ground in the city center. We
wanted it to be a non-confrontational one, so that we had chance to get a
positive reply. So we chose the ground near the Botanic Garden".
