Manayeu: Lukashenka’s rating is lowest now
According to the IISEPS, Lukashenka’s rating has decreased by 2.5 times and 20.5% are ready to vote for him.
However, the number of people ready to express their protest has not changed.
"The number of people ready to vote for Alyaksandr Lukashenka if there were an election tomorrow has reached the record low level in 17 years of monitoring and totals 20.5%. The previous historic minimum was registered in the spring of 2003 – in March and April – 26.2%”, - said sociologist Aleh Manayeu to Euroradio.
Half of electors could vote for Alyaksandr Lukashenka after the presidential election of 2010 and the number has decreased by 2.5 times in nine months. In Manayeu’s opinion, the collapse was predictable.
"It is logical. Let me remind you that the number was 50.3% in December, 43% - three months later in March and 29.3% - in June. It was expected to decrease that much: some people said it would be a total collapse and others – that it would collapse a lot. However, IISEPS analysts predicted it in spring”.
One of the main reasons for the state leader’s low rating is the economic crisis.
The number of people considering themselves to be in opposition to the current authorities has also increased. It has increased by 10% in 9 months.
"28% of people have admitted being in opposition to the current authorities. However, it is said only in the broad sense meaning that they do not like the current state of affairs and that they are against it. There are 28% of them now in comparison with 18% in December”.
The number does not reflect their readiness to protest. People who claim to be in opposition will not go out to the streets and will not join a strike urged by a political party, specifies Manayeu.
"The real number of Belarusians ready for real protests and eager to express their opinion remains as low as it was 9 months ago. It means that the dramatic collapse of the rating by 2.5 times in 9 months cannot mean that it will result in something – it would be wrong to think so!”
Only 24.5% of September pollees trust Alyaksandr Lukashenka, while 62% don’t. 87.6% of them think that the Belarusian economy is in a state of crisis.
