Mother of Belarusian pardoned by Putin: My son is still in prison
The Belarusians convicted in Russia for "Tussal" contraband and pardoned recently remain in prison so far.
Syarhei Lahun and Alyaksandr Chachurau
will spend several more days in prison before they are finally released.
Let us remind you, the Belarusians were sentenced for 14 years of imprisonment
each in Moscow back in 2007, for the "contraband of psychotropic substances'. Euroradio
informed about the situation many times. Five years ago, the Belarusians
delivered a thousand of Polish tablets "Tussal" upon the order to
Moscow. However, it turned out that they had been waited for by... an officer
of the Russian Federal Service for Drugs Turnover Control. In the end, the
youngsters were detained and convicted.
"Tussal" was in free sale in all Belarusian pharmacies, but it is not
included into the list of medical preparations, registered in Russia. These
pills contain a small dose of a psychotropic
substance. In the end of 2007, the Moscow city court
decreased the term of imprisonment for the Belarusians till 9 years. The
Russian President signed the decree on pardon of Syarhei Lahun and Alyaksandr
Chachurau before his official visit to Belarus.
Svyatlana,
the mother of Baranavichy inhabitant Alyaksand
Chachurau, has told Euroradio that her son will stay in prison
until the decree on pardon arrives.
"The
decree has been published, but it is supposed to go through all the instances
and reach the prison... They told us that this process would take some time, - Svyatlana says. - We are worried, we call them
all the time in order to find out some news and to go for our son - it takes 36
hours to get there".
According to Svyatlana, her husband and she have lived in constant waiting and
struggle for their son for the last five years.
"We've
written so many appeals for pardon: to Medvedev, to Putin, to the Belarusian
General Prosecutor, we addressed to the media and to the human rights
organizations. We have received so many refusals that I will believe in his
release only when the prison doors shut behind his back and I hug him", - Svyatlana says.
