Strawberries get twice more expensive on the way from Brest region to Minsk

"Strawberries for markets and shops are Br 8-10 thousand. Strawberries for making wine are Br 2 thousand, and the ones for juice - Br 3 thousand" - the consumer association of Luninets announces the prices for which they accept strawberries.

In Minsk, the same strawberries are sold for different prices. The price grows twice till the berries reach the market. 

"The strawberries for Br 8 thousand are sold for Br 20-25 thousand in Minsk. We also bought them and sold in Minsk for Br 16 or even 17 thousand", - they confess in Luninets.

It turns out that there is a profit of Br 8-9 thousand per kilo. The berries sold for processing give Br 1 thousand of profit.

At the market, they sell strawberries for Br 18-20 thousand. It is unprofitable to hand the strawberries to the state for Br 9 thousand, it's easier to deliver them to Minsk by oneself.

Strawberries from "Kamarouski" market

"We do not hand the berries in to the state, we have few of them, so we deliver them to Minsk by ourselves. Even our neighbours buy strawberries from us for Br 15 thousand and then sell for Br 20 thousand", — Alena Dzmirtyeuna says. She brought her strawberries from Luninets district to sell them at "Kamarouski" market.

"We bring the good ones here and hand in not very good ones to the state", - Iryna Pyatrouna says about the strawberries which are used for making wine. Her strawberries are sold at the Kamarouski market for Br 18 thousand. 

Prices for berries change every day, as they depend n the weather and the harvest. As for the state prices...they are fixed. They cannot be changed.

The prices started going up because of rains. The minimal price used to be Br 4-6 thousand, and it is Br 10 thousand now. The price may change within several hours. The state should react to these prices but it is very slow. In Minsk, prices are twice higher as resellers want to earn something", — says Syarhei, who grows strawberries himself at his 30 ares of land.

He does not hand in the berries to the state.

"It is easier to hand strawberries to the state for the one who has just one bucket. If I have my own berries it is reasonable for me to take them to Minsk myself. And the prices are twice higher as the fuel is not exactly cheap nowadays", - explains Syarhei.

Euroradio buys a kilogram of strawberries at the Kamarouski market for Br 20 thousand. It tastes good but spoils fast.

Besides, strawberries are a little cheaper in Warsaw than in Minsk - Br 14-17 thousand in conversion to the Belarusian currency.
