Trade ministry objects to hour restrictions for alcohol sales

The Trade Ministry of Belarus has objected to time restrictions for alcohol sales.
The Interior Ministry earlier tabled a legislation which proposes to restrict shop hours for alcohol sales from 9 a.m to 10 p.m. The Minsk City Council proposed to ban alcohol sales after 11 p.m. But Belarus' deputy trade minister Iryna Narkevich has objected to those proposals.

“It does not make sense to introduce a total ban. The Minsk City Council threatens to close down shops and things like that if they violate alcohol sale hours. There should be graduall measures across the country. Everything should be thought out well. The business community should be invited for a dialogue", she told reports on January 13 in Minsk”.

She also backed alcohol adverts in the specialized media. Under the current laws, alcohol ads in the media are banned. The media that violate this law can face fines and even closures.
