Belarus records 30% rise in crimes among Ukraine refugees
Police officials say foreigners account for 1.2% of crime rate in Belarus.
The level of crime among Ukrainians living in Belarus has grown by almost 30%, says Head of Department of Citizenship and Migration at the Ministry of Internal Affairs, Alyaksei Byahun.
The crime rate of foreign citizens in Belarus is low - 1.2% of the total number of crimes in the country. For comparison, Mr Byahunr mentioned that in some regions of Russia crime rate among foreigners is 20%, and in some EU countries - up to 50%, BelaPAN reports quoating the officials.
He added that the behavior of Ukrainian refugees has to do with their mentality, the notion of freedom, order, which found the way into their mentality due to certain circumstances." Mr Byahun said that at their first stage of living in Belarus, Ukrainians try to bring here their world - for example, drinking beer in the street.
Over the past year and a half, due to the military conflict in Ukraine, more than 100 thousand citizens of Ukraine arrived in Belarus.
