US condemns crackdown on media, demonstrators in Miinsk
The United States has condemned the recent repressions in Belarus against journalists and peaceful demonstrators by describing Alexander Lukashenka's rule as brutal and authoritarian. "The regime of Alyaksandr Lukashenka has again shown itself as a brutal, authoritarian dictatorship that blatantly ignores human rights and fundamental freedoms", US State Department Spokesman Sean McCormack said in a statement.
He condemned the crackdown on independent media in Belarus, during which some 30 independent journalists in 12 cities were detained without legitimate cause. Sean McCormack called to stop the repressions in this country.
