Yanukovich wanted, Ukrainian MIA tracked his escape
Newly appointed Minister of Internal Affairs Arsen Avakov has reported it on Facebook.
Avakov described the ex-President’s travels after his departure from Mizhgorye. Some of Yanukovich’s guards left him and he is in the Crimea now. Avakov’s full message:
“Here is my report to the Ukrainian people. Yanukovich has disappeared. We have been working on the situation in Sevastopol together with SBU chief Valentin Nalivaichik the whole night... and we have been looking for the ex-President. V. Yanukovich left Kiev for Kharkiv by plane on February 21. He was going to take part in his party’s meeting there. Yanukovich spent the night of February 22 in his residence in Kharkiv, refused to take part in the meeting and recorded a video appeal. He left for Donetsk Airport by helicopter.
He tried leaving Donetsk Airport together with his guards by two private airplanes Falcon. But the border service did not let him leave. Yanukovich left for his residence in Donetsk and spent a few hours there.
Yanukovich’s motorcade left for Crimea on the evening of February 22. The police did not accompany him. He stayed at a private sanatorium and ignored the state objects like the presidential summer house although he had been planning to go there at first.
Having learnt that the Parliament appointed A. Turchinov acting President and knowing about the heads of the MIA and SBU heading for Crimea, Yanukovich left for a private sanatorium situated on the way to Belbek Airport. Nalivaichyk and I are there now.
Yanukovich arrived at a private residence near Balaklava at 11.50 p.m. He asked his guards if they wanted to follow him. Some of the guards wanted to leave. Yanukovich bade farewell to them and wrote an official REFUSAL FROM THE STATE SECURITY GUARDS (scan here).
The guards who left Yanukovich left their weapons at the MIA department in Crimea.
Yanukovich, Kluyeu and the remaining security guards left the residence and switched off all their communications.
As of the today’s morning, a criminal case for the massacre of peaceful citizens has been started, Yanukovich and a number of other officials are wanted.”
