You can drink beer from bags in Lithuania and walk with an open bottle in Poland
Fines for drinking beer in public places are smaller in our neighbouring countries if compared to Belarus The ban on drinking alcoholic beverages in the street does not surprise anyone in Poland anymore. Amateurs of drinking in the open air or in public transport appear from time to time, however, they get fined for about 30 dollars for it. ERB has found it out in the Capital commandant's office of Poland.
Employee of the commandant's office: “It is forbidden to drink alcoholic beverages in the street. We have special places for it – bars, pubs and cafes. You cannot do it in the street as you will be fined for 30 zlotys”.
At the same time an open bottle in your hands is not a reason for a fine. Policemen will only fine you if you are caught “red-handed” – they have to see you drinking in the street.
London police will not pay attention to you even in that case. You could drink beer and admire the view of the Big Ben at the same time in the capital of Albion, noted London police in an interview with ERB.
Employee of London police press service: “At the moment it is not forbidden to drink alcoholic beverages in the city streets. However, it depends of people’s behaviour. If they drink beer and violate the order, it's quite another matter”.
However, there are “alcohol free zones” in some districts of Great Britain. The fine may reach 80 pounds there – it is about 380 thousand rubels. If hard drinking is a problem in some regions, local inhabitants can decide to impose a ban on it with the help of the police and local authorities.
If drinking in the open air is not a problem for anyone and people behave, nobody will try to limit their freedom.
You can also drink beer in the street in Czechia. It will be considered ill-mannered in Germany but you will not be fined. To drink beer in the Lithuanian capital you will have to hide your bottle in an opaque bag, explained the press service of the Lithuanian police to ERB.
Press service employee: “If you are not in the way, nobody can see you, or you drink from a bag and it does not insult anyone, there is no responsibility for it”.
However, if you do not happen to have a bag, the police can pronounce you a warning for drinking in public places or fine you for 30-50 litas (about 15-20 dollars). If you get caught twice a year – the fine will reach 50 dollars. Repeaters that get caught for the third time have to pay 150 dollars or serve a sentence in prison.
You are not going to be arrested for drinking beer in Belarus, but an opaque bag will not make any difference, said the head of the Prevention department of Brest City Department of the Interior Victar Melnikau.
Victar Melnikau: “There is no notion like drinking from a bag. The law says: drinking beer and soft drinks. There are no comments or explanations saying that it is allowed to drink beer from a bag”.
However, Victar Melnikau claims that if a sober person is noticed with a bottle in a bag, he or she will not be fined, they will be pronounced a warning. Let us remind you that drinking beer in the street was forbidden in Belarus on February 23. You may be fined for 280 thousand rubles for it.
