Another amnesty may be announced in 2010
The possibility of one more amnesty in 2010 is being discussed in Belarus. The announcement had been made by the Minister of Internal Affairs Anatol Kulyahsou. According to him, the possibility of an amnesty is being considered by all the interested institutions now. The decision may be taken after all of them make conclusions, reports BelaPAN.
The number of people who may be amnestied in connection with the 65th anniversary of the victory in the Great Patriotic War has not been counted yet. “The Ministry of Internal Affairs always supports the idea of reducing the number of people serving their sentences in prisons”, - said Kulyashou.
The previous amnesty took place in Belarus in 2009. 2126 people were released and the term of imprisonment of 9345 citizens was reduced by 12 months.
