Authorities refuse to commute Kazulins’s sentence

A political prisoner Alyaksandr Kazulin has been refused a commutation of his sentence for the second time, reports “Interfax” referring to the colony “Vitsba-3” where he is serving his sentence. As it was reported, Kazulin’s daughter Yuliya sent an appeal for a commutation of his father’s sentence on March 13, 2008. She asked to replace the rest of the term of imprisonment for correctional or civil labour and to reconsider the 10 violations of the regime. In particular, she asked to reconsider the violations registered during Kazulin’s hunger-strike.

“The reply to Y.Kazulina’s appeal where she asked to commute A.Kazulin’s sentence has been sent”, - informed “Vitsba-3”. The reply informs that the appeal has been considered and refused”.

The agency explained that the decision was grounded on the article “Ascertainment of convict’s improvement” and reminded that Alyaksandr Kazulin had received four warnings for violation of the regime during the imprisonment and that he had violated the regime 10 times”.

According to the administration of the colony, Kazulin feels well and has not violated the regime so far. The administration has nothing to reproach him for, he is still working as a stockman.

Let us remind you that Alyaksandr Kazulin told ERB that he would not violate the regime anymore in his interview before returning to the colony.
