Basics of Slavic Culture to be added to school curriculum?
A new subject titled "The Basics of the Slavic Culture" is proposed to become part of the high-school curriculum, according to a group of philosophers and literature experts, reports STV.
In the view of the scholars, the new subject will foster a deeper understanding of cultural roots and history by the young generation and will facilitate the unification of Slavic peoples. The Ministry of Education had declined a comment on this matter.
Legislators had no information about this initiative and learned about it from the European Radio for Belarus. Uladzimir Zdanovich, the chairman of the Education, Culture, Science and Technical Progress Committee at the House of Representatives, told ERB reporter that he heard nothing about this initiative.
“This proposal has definitely not been filed with the House of Representatives. I have not dealt with it yet. This sounds like a new topic to me. I am hearing about it for the first time… I think this subject should not be taught at school… Anyway, such proposals need to be really thought out well", Zdanovich said.
