Belarus-born Peres to run for Israel presidency
Israel vice PM Simon Peres has announced he is going to run for the president of his country. Peres was born in the village of Vishneva in the Valozhyn district, Minsk region in Belarus. Peres, 83, will run on behalf of the ruling Kadima party.
He is the former prime minister of Israel and the winner of the Nobel Peace Prize. The president is elected by the parliament in Israel on June 13, according to Charter'97.
