Breakdown at Lukoml electric power station, some districts are blacked out
The biggest electric power station in the country – Lukoml electric power station (Novalukoml, Vitsebsk Region) has been suspended today. Some districts of Vitsebsk, Hrodna and Minsk Regions have been blacked out including a number of districts in Minsk and Vitsebsk. Minsk tractor plant has been suspended too. The consequences of the breakdown are to be liquidated within the next hour. According to the First National Channel, the urgent suspension took place at 9.10 a.m. The director of the station Henadz Karalyou says a suspension of the kind has never happened at Lukoml electric power station before.
It is still not clear how many districts are blacked out now. According to some sources, Minsk districts Malinauka, Drazhnya and the centre of the city are blacked out. Minsk tractor plant and the “Pramen” plant are suspended.
Repair woks are in process at the electric power station. Two power units are already functioning and the other ones will be turned on within an hour, assures Henadz Karalyou. A special commission is investigation the reason for the breakdown.
Let us note that Lukoml electric power station was built 40 years ago. Its first power unit started functioning in 1969 and the other 7 were put in commission until 1974.
