Catherine Ashton: List of sanctions is still open
The Europen Union will expand the list of banned Belarusian officials, and is also ready to consider new targeted sanctions.
The High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy of the European Union Catherine Ashton has made such a statement on March 18 in Brussels.
The EU plans to expand the list of Belarusian officials who are forbidden to enter the territory of the European Union by 19 people on March 21.
The press-center of EU's representation in Belarus has informed to BelaPAN, that Ashton reminded on the following: "In accordance with the conclusions made by the Council for Foreign Affairs on January 31, the list of persons, against whom restrictive measures are used, is open and is reconsidered constantly, taking into account the development of the situation".
In particular, according to her, the EU intends to continue including such Belarusian officials, as judges and public prosecutors, who are directly connected with politically motivated sentences and repressions against the civil society, into the list.
"The European Union is ready to consider new targeted measures in all the fields of cooperation, depending on the further development of the situation in Belarus", — Ashton has said.
