Closed-door consultations on Belarus nuclear power plant taking place in Warsaw
The trans-border consultations on the construction of a nuclear power plant in Astravets, Belarus are taking place on May 25 in Warsaw. The Belarusian side will have to answer all the questions on the safety of the future reactors. The consultations will continue through the evening, the European Radio for Belarus has learned from the press service of the General Directorate for Environmental Protection. "The meeting will take place for the whole day. There will be discussions between the Polish and Belarusian ministries", a press officer said.
The consultations are taking place behind the closed door, so no representatives of the public were invited to attend. Belarus is represented by officials from the Ministry of Natural Resources, other government agencies and investors. Poland invited representatives of the local authorities and regional specialists on environment protection apart from the officials from the Environmental Protection Directorate and the National Agency for Nuclear Energy.
These meetings take place in the framework of the international convention. Another goal of the Belarusian delegation is to negotiate the trans-border activities' affects on environment.
