Critical Mass bike ride banned in Hrodna
The traffic police in Hrodna
have banned a Critical Mass bike ride aimed at promoting healthy lifestyles and
equality among bike riders and drivers. Police prevented about 70 cyclists from
entering the city to complete their 18-kilometer journey.
Critical Mass is an event
typically held on the last Friday of every month in about 200 cities around the
world where bicyclists and other self-propelled commuters take to the streets en
masse. The ride was originally founded with the idea of drawing attention
to how unfriendly the city is to bicyclists. Hrodna is the only city where the
ride was banned this year.
