Elections: Candidate from opposition group expelled from university
18-year-old Iryna Hubskaya, an activist of the Belarusian Christian Democracy, has been expelled from Sakharov International State Ecological University, BCD leader Pavel Sevyarynets said in a statement. Belapan news agency reminds that on March 24 Hubskaya was registered as a candidate for a seat at the Minsk City Council.
Hubskaya was a sophomore student of the government-funded Environmental Monitoring course. Officially, she was expelled for skipping classes. According to Sevyarynets, she would skip classes earlier, but serious problems began after she was nominated as a candidate for the upcoming local election campaign.
Her parents were initially told that the case would end up with a warning. But on March 26 during a lecture, she was summoned to the chancellor and told she was expelled since March 24.
