European Commission reminds about possibility to restore benefits
The European Commission is urging Belarusian authorities to respect the rights of workers.
The appeal distributed by the press service of the European Commission informs that Belarus will be excluded from the system of EU preferences starting from June 21.
The reason for this step was Belarusian authorities’ violation of the rights of workers concerning activities of independent trade unions. The International Labour Organization confirmed it.
The European Commission regrets that Belarus has not done anything to improve the situation with the rights of trade unions regardless of numerous appeals for it.
As soon as Belarus fulfils its commitments to the International Labour Organization the European Commission will suggest restoring trade benefits for Belarus in the framework of the General System of Preferences”, — is said in the appeal.
Let us remind you that according to independent experts, Belarus will be losing up to half a billion dollars per year in case of the benefits cancellation.
