European Parliament ready to discuss invitation of Lukashenka to Riga
The main problem remains with existence of political prisoners in our country.
The invitation of Alyaksandr Lukashenka to Riga for the the Eastern Partnership summit in May is yet to be discussed. This statement was made by the head of the Foreign Affairs Committee of the European Parliament, Elmar Brok.
"Lukashenka is sometimes needed, but on the other hand, I do not see any improvement in the internal Belarusian politics, which is associated with a large number of political prisoners," rus.delfi.lv quoted Brock. The MEP, if the head of Belarus released political prisoners, he could get invited to the summit in Riga.
Earlier, Secretary of State of the Latvian Foreign Ministry, Andrejs Pildegovics, said that Latvia, which this year holds the EU presidency, is ready to invite Lukashenka to the summit of the Eastern Partnership. But he left if for Belarus to have a final word on the decision to be represented at the Riga summit.
