Growth of utilities costs not to exceed $5 in 2008
Utilities costs will not grow by more than $5 in 2008, Belarus's Housing and Utilities Minister Uladzimir Belakhvostau said on December 19, reports the official news agency Belta.
The minister said that a draft resolution which envisages a one-off $5 increase in utilities costs, has been tabled at the Council of Ministers.
Belakhvostau also noted that the government will take over the major burden of compensating for the raised prices for Russian energy supplies.
He explained that the margin of $5 threatens huge losses for the housing and utilities industry. As a result, the government will increase subsidies to the sector.
