IIHF Congress starts in Stockholm
The issue of conducting the 2014 World Ice Hockey Championship in Belarus may be discussed there.
A number of international organizations and MEPs asked the International Ice Hockey Federation not to conduct the championship in Minsk at the beginning of May. The authors of the appeal urged to support victims of human rights violation in Belarus and reminded that there were 11 political prisoners in our country. Nobel Peace Prize nominee Ales Byalyatski is among them.
The appeal was signed by representatives of human rights organizations and MEPs, BelaPAN reports.
The championship will be held in Belarus anyway, representatives of the official Minsk think.
