Intellectuals call to refuse from Customs Union in favor of Eastern Partnership
The community of art and scientific intellectuals on January 27 issued a statement titled "Belarus' Participation in Integration Projects with Russia is Illgeal!. The main idea of the statement is to refuse from the Customs Union for the sake of EU's Eastern Partneship. Ihar Lednik, one of the statement's authors, told the European Radio for Belarus that the aim of the statement is to prevent Russia from swallowing Belarus. Our only way out is to take part in the Eastern Partnership program and to return people's power through local elections.
The statement was endorsed by Uladzimir Kolas, chairman of the Council of Belarusian Intellectuals; writers Uladzimir Khalip, Ales Mikalaichanka, Uladzimir Sodal, Vasil Yakavenka; artists Ales Shaternik, Aliaksei Marachkin, Ales Tsyrkunou; Belarus people's artiste Zinaida Bandarenka, scientists Yury Khadyka, Lidzia Savik, Yauhen Anishchanka, journalists Mikola Lavitski, Anatol Bukas, engineers Aleh Hayeuski, Aleh Shahulin and others.
