Investigators explain reasons for Baumgertner's transfer to house arrest
Investigators in Belarus say the urgent phase of investigation into the wrongdoing by Uralkali CEO Vladislav Baumgertner is complete.
Head of the Department for Information and Public Relations of the Investigatory Committee Pavel Travulka has informed this to the BelaPAN news agency. According to him, this is the reason why the investigation decided to change the restraint to house arrest instead of imprisonment.
The Uralkali CEO is kept in the apartment rented by the KGB. Meanwhile, there appeared information in the media that the Russian businessman's agents pay for the apartment. Baumgertner's mother, who arrived from Russia, stays with him.
The Uralkali CEO was arrested in Minsk on August 26. He spent a month in the KGB prison under the accusation of misuse of power and official authorizations.
