Istanbul tunnel to connect Europe and Asia today (video)
It is the first railway tunnel under the Bosphorus.
The event is dated for the 90th anniversary of the creation of the Turkish Republic, BBC reports. The idea of the tunnel was suggested by Ottoman sultan Abdul-Medjid in the 19th century.
The construction started in 2004 but archaeological excavations of buildings dating back to the Byzantine epoch delayed the construction.
