The work PC of Maryna Koktysh has been confiscated after a search in the editorial office of the newspaper (Photo) Employees of the Office of the Public Prosecutor of Lenin District of Minsk have searched the workplace of a journalist of “Narodnaya Volya” Maryna Koktysh today. Investigator Chui has confiscated her work PC.
The investigator who arrived at the office of “Narodnaya Volya” has refused to explain his actions to ERB.
ERB: “Could you please answer a few questions?”
A.Chui: “No”
ЕРБ: “We would like to know at least”…
A.Chui: “We are conducting investigative actions now and I will not answer any questions”.
ERB: “What do the investigative actions concern?”
A.Chui: “They concern one of the criminal cases being investigated now”
ERB: “What is the role of Maryna Koktysh in this case?”
A.Chui: “She will tell you everything herself”.
The journalist has informed that she was interrogated as a witness in the case of slander of KGB officials.
Maryna Koktysh: “I have been interrogated as a witness in the case concerning slander of KGB officials. Everything is connected with “the hunting case” considered in court now. I was one of the journalists who met the relatives of the policemen accused in this case and who are standing trial now. The relatives have also been interrogated for the criminal case. Probably they named the journalists who met them. However, the information (the slander of KGB officials - author) was published in the website of “Charter-97” and “Partisan”, “Narodnaya Volya” has not published anything.
According to the journalist, investigator Chui told her that they were going to confiscate her PC to check whether “the slander” that appeared on the mentioned website had come from her computer or not.
According to the deputy chairperson of BAJ, lawyer Andrei Bastunets who was present in the office during the search, the policemen did everything according to the law. However, there are issues that can be appealed in court.
Andrei Bastunets: “The question remains: “How legal was it to admit that some materials could be found in her PC?” It could be a reason to conduct a search in any other room with a PC”.
He reminded policemen who often refer to Germany’s experience in their actions that it was forbidden to search editorial offices in Germany”.
