Jude Law and Kevin Spacey protest against last dictatorship in Europe
World movie stars came out to the center of London with a demonstration and declared their protest against arrests of the opposition in Belarus.
The Belarusian Free Theatre, London theatres "Young Vic" and "Almeida", the human rights organization "Index on Censorship" and London Belarusian Committee have organized a picket in the opposite of the "Grayling" company's office on March 28, Charter-97 informs.
"Grayling's" cooperation with Belarus has made a scandal in Great Britain. The PR-company is conducting an advertising campaign aimed at attraction of investments into the last dictatorship in Europe.
Famous British actors, Hollywood stars Kevin Spacey and Jude Law, Andrej Sannikau's sister and initiator of the court trial against Lukashenka Iryna Bahdanava, the head of the Belarusian Free Theatre Natallia Kaliada, a British actress Adjoa Andoh and the Chief Executive of the "Index on Censorship" John Kampfner took part in the demonstration. The participants of the action held portraits of political prisoners in their hands.
After the picket the column moved in the direction of the British parliament, where they conducted a short demonstration and a press-conference. Then a part of theatre figures and demonstrators entered the Great Hall of the British Parliament, and the closing event of the day took place. The event was opened by John Kampfner and a famous British playwright Sir Tom Stoppard. Representatives of more than 10 London theatres and British MPs were present in the hall.
Scenes from Mikalaj Khalezin's performance "Jeans Generation", dedicated to fighters for the freedom of Belarus, were played in the Parliament's building. The main parts were palyed by Mikalaj Khalezin and Jude Law. The audience loved the performance. After this, the British MPs declared their intention to conduct hearings on Belarus in the near future.
