“Kommersant”: Belarus’ energy blockade is connected with NPP construction
Commenting on the results of one more “oil war” between Russia and Belarus, the Kommersant newspaper claims that the “energy blockade” tactics used by the Kremlin has brought its results again. Now Belarus will have to look for new investors for its oil-processing plants as “the hopes of Belarusian oil-processing plants to process cheap Russian oil and make the same sums as they did in 2009 have been destroyed”.
The newspaper refers to some sources in the Russian governmental and predicts that intergovernmental negotiations between the Russian Federation and Belarus will take place by October 1. They will concern “the whole range of energy issues – oil, gas and the construction of the NPP”. Thus, the construction of the NPP is put on the same list as other energy issues Russia can influence now and where it can demand to stick to its terms.
