“Live shield” victims to get compensation this week
The driving inspectorate (not the guilty policemen) will pay 25 million to the victims. The term for the payment is one month. However, the victims expect to get the money this week.
Yury Pashkevich, the owner of the BMW that was damaged most of all as a result of “the live shield” told ERB about it:
“They should pay it. It will be done by the state – by Minsk driving inspectorate. They will pay the whole some at once and will make the guilty policemen return it afterwards… They said they would do it this or next week”.
The victims’ lawyer Vera Stramkouskaya confirmed that Minsk driving inspectorate would have to pay the compensation. It will be recovered from the culprits later. The deadline is one month. If they do not pay the compensation, it will be done with the help of an officer of the court:
Vera Stramkouskaya: “It will be paid by Minsk droving inspectorate. They will be able to levy it from the guilty policemen afterwards if they like. The court’s decision will come into power and they will start paying.
They will have to pay the compensation within a month. An officer of the court will deal with it if they do not do it of their own accord”.
The Pashkevichs and their 3-year-old child will get 6 millions each. The sum will be given to the victims. They will not have to pay taxes after that, explained the lawyer Vera Stramkouskaya in an interview with ERB:
“According to the court’s decision, they will not have to pay taxes. It is a compensation for their moral damages and it is not taxed”.
One of the victims, Yury Pashkevich, says that he would not give away any money even if they tell him to pay the taxes:
“What taxes? I will not give it away!.. I think it should not be taxed. The whole sum belongs to us”.
The tax inspectorate assured us and Yury Pashkevich that it will not be taxed according to the law:
“The law states that compensations are not taxed. This is the only case”.
Yury Pashkevich drives in spite of the fact that the compensation has not been paid yet. He borrowed money to buy a new car. Yury is waiting for the court’s decision to pay the debt:
“I have a car. I drive it. But I have to pay back the money I paid for it”.
