Lukashenka concerned about growing imports of medicines (video)
In recent years there was a small but noticeable import growth, said President of Belarus.
Ayaksandr Lukashenka is concerned about the increase in imports of medicines to the Belarusian market - he said it at a meeting on the issues of the pharmaceutical industry which took place on February 20.
"Our domestic market drugs is estimated at nearly $1 billion. But in recent years there has been a small but noticeable growth of imports into the country. So I want to hear how the import substitution program in the industry is implemented," said Alyaksandr Lukashenka at the meeting.
Among the issues discussed at the meeting was the issue of modernization of pharmaceutical companies. In 2012, there was issued a special decree and "something is done as a whole, but not everrything goes as planned", said the Belarusian leader.
According to Lukashenka, the country's population should be provided with affordable and high quality domestic medications. Back in 2010, the task was set to bring the share of Belarusian drugs on the domestic market to 50%, as "a matter of national security".
Lukashenka is also concerned about the low demand for Belarusian medicines abroad. During the meeting, the head of the country was interested in what is needed and can be done today to increase exports and have a breakthrough in this area, BelTA reports.
