Lukashenka says Russian Orthodox leader's visit is big political event

Alyaksandr Lukashenka told Patriarch Alexy II, head of the Russian Orthodox Church, on Friday that his visit to Minsk is a big political event. The Belarusian leader noted the lack of religious differences and conflicts in Belarus.

Alexy II, for his part, thanked Lukashenka for his assistance in the restoration and construction of Orthodox churches and his “warm attitude” toward the church. “Doing good is a great act. I have visited many places and seen how people appreciate you,” he was quoted as saying.
