Lukashenka's top aide prepares ground for Ukraine's new president visit to Minsk

Ukraine president Victor Yanukovich plans to visit Belarus this spring, after Uladzimir Makei who heads the Belarus president's administrtation, visited Kiev recently.   Makei held several meetings in Kiev where journalists were not allowed to attend. But the official web site of the government reveals some details of the talks with Ukraine's new PM Nikolay Azarov.

"Belarus is a friendly neighboring country, a special partner for Ukraine. Like always between neighbors we have topics for dicussion and compromises, but we definitely have no problems that cannot be resolved. We have many opportunities to develop bilateral relations. I think that both Belarus and us are interested in it", Nikolay Azarov's press service quoted him as saying.

The Ukrainian prime minister expressed hope that the visit of Victor Yanukovich to Minsk would help resolve several important issues. An ad hoc Belarus-Ukraine commission will prepare ground for this.

Uladzimir Makei congratulated Azarov on behalf of Belarus leader Alexander Lukashenka with his appointment of the prime minister. "Belarus knows you very well. We expect a new stage in the development of relations between our countries", said Makei.

The head of Belarus president's administration noted that our country counts on the development of relations in all the spheres. He said the two sides needed to carry out a deep analysis of the bilateral ties in order to achieve this goal.

During the meeting, Nikolai Azarov and Uladzimir Makei discussed how to boost trade and economic cooperation in various fields.
