New local council member arrested for bribery
The economic-crime unit at the Homel Police Department detained a newly elected member of the local district council, who worked as a manager of a state-owned farm in the village of Sutkau.
Police found $1100, received by the farm manager from an unidentified 48-year-old resident of Homel, for facilitating the sale of two written-off combine-harvester engines, reports Respublika newspaper.
The district council member has been placed into custody, while facing criminal prosecution on bribery charges.
The district council is now to decide on removing the immunity of a deputy from the former manager.
