No plans yet for second international air carrier in Belarus

The new passenger airline project in Belarus has been postponed, Anatol Sivak, Transport and Communications Minister, said on December 30.

"With our current amount of passenger traffic, it is not economically feasible to take further steps in this project," BELTA quotes his words. Sivak noted that the business plan was developed, but the document was not approved.

It is expected that 2015 will be difficult not only for the Belarusian aviation, but also for foreign airlines. Authorities may return to the project of creating a second passenger airline in Belarus at the beginning of 2016.

In October 2014, Transport and Communications Minister Anatol Sivak spoke of such plans. The second international passenger airlines was supposed to be established on the basis of the enterprise Grodnaaviya.

Currently, Belavia is the only airline operating in Belarus. It conducts regular passenger flights to more than 40 airports in Europe and Asia.
