Only part of Minsk private entrepreneurs are on strike

Spontaneous meetings took place in a number of Belarusian cities during the national preventive strike of private entrepreneurs on December 10.  From 400 to 500 people gathered in Babruisk, Mahileu, Salihorsk and Slutsk. Numerous policemen also attended the actions but they did not interfere. 80-90% of private entrepreneurs have gone on strike in Barysau, Pinsk, Rechytsa and Zhodzina. About 80% of entrepreneurs working in Rakauski Market, Zhdanovichy and “Mirror” have joined the action in Minsk. The markets in “Dynama” stadium, Chervenski market and “Parking” work as usual.

Private entrepreneurs are expressing their disagreement with the authorities taking decisions about small-scale business and planning innovations (private entrepreneurs will work like legal entities starting from 2009), notes BelaPAN.

Participants of the strike demand that the authorities should adopt a law on small and medium-scale business. Another action - “Entrepreneurs’ March” - will take place in Minsk on December 15. Its participants will also protest against new working conditions of private entrepreneurs.
