A picket in solidarity with political prisoners in Belarus today took place in front of the Belarusian embassy in Moscow. It was organized by the Russian movement Oborona (Defense). The picket was timed with the anniversary when Soviet symbols were restored in Belarus, reports Kasparov.Ru.
Some 10 activists were heard chanting "Long Live Belarus!", "Freedom to Political Prisoners!" and "Freedom to Belarus!".
The action participants were also handing out leaflets which condemned the "corrupted and power-loving leadership of Belarus headed by president Alexander Lukashenko"".
On May 14, 1995, a national referendum in Belarus changed the national historic flag and the coat of arms.
