Police: Customs Union to worsen car-theft record in Belarus
The police in Minsk do not rule out that the number of car thefts will increase in the future, following Belarus' membership in the Customs Union with Russia and Kazakhstanз. According to Mikalai Vyaremeyeu, a deputy chief of criminal police at the Minsk City Police Department, the situation over car thefts in the capital city has remained stable. In 2009, the police even saw a drop in the number of stolen cars by 70 vehicles against the year before.
Belapan news agency reports that in the first 20 days of January 2010, 12 cars were stolen in Minsk. In 2008, 36 vehicles went missing.
